Meet Pilar: Chronicler of Bad Behavior

Spotted: outside the Ruby Room, Oakland, CA
Occupation: Bartender and writer

We stopped Pilar outside of The Ruby Room on 14th Street in Oakland. The Ruby Room is notorious for its dark, red light and hip crowd. Pilar was on the prowl for a fun night out and a story for her website.

What do you write?
I write fiction, mostly, of a deviant sexual nature.

Nice, and you have a website? And what does it feature?
Yep, fuckfeast.net. I’ve been publishing a new piece everyday for over two years now about life in Oakland: dating, feminism, sex, bars, drugs, getting drunk and all sorts of bad behavior.

Why did you choose the name 'fuck feast'
Because sex should be a feast!

Are you from the Bay Area?
Yeah. I’m from Oakland. I was born like, 20 blocks from here.

I love your name—where did it come from?
It's a Mexican Catholic name.

What are you doing tonight?
I'm drinking with friends!

Where do you work?
I work at Plum Bar at Grand and Broadway and at Mua at Broadway and 25th.

Where did you get your outfit?
Sweater: Salvation Army had an ‘everything is three dollars’ sale.
Pants: Mars on Telegraph. It's a vintage clothing store. I used to work there—they have really good stuff.
Shoes: A thrift store on Mission Street three years ago for like six bucks.
Necklace: I got it in Alameda at an antique store. It’s turn of the century.
Backpack:
From a yard sale for two dollars.

Where is your favorite place to travel?
I like Mexico. I went to Tijuana last summer and it was amazing.

If you could live anywhere else in the world where would it be?
Mexico! I have been living here my whole life so a change of scenery would probably be nice eventually.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t suck a dude’s dick until he gives you something that will last longer than the relationship. Solid Advice.

What do you like to do for fun?
Drink, write and have sex.

How would you describe your style in a few words?
Schizophrenic. Eccentric. Glamorous.
